An Introduction

FACC IT...
FACC IT stands for Forget About Climate Change In Total and we’re on a mission to help address the issue by providing you with the information you need to make a difference… so we can forget about it, which we hope everyone gets on board with.

We’re already sick of talking about the problem, however the less we do to address it, the quicker it gets worse, and the more we’ll be hearing about it… which we really don’t want.

Our mission…
Our mission is to spark constructive conversations around this topic, to break down our personal barriers to engaging with this issue and foster belief that we can all make a difference.

Personal Barriers...
Pretty much every scientist in the world is saying that how we handle this crisis is going to determine our future and the fate of generations to come.

In theory, you’d think we’d all be dying to learn more about this, but often the exact opposite is true. For many of us, this isn’t our favourite topic of discussion and we think it’s important to ask why that is.

We hope to achieve...
We want us, as a wider collective, to make informed decisions about our future (because it’s in our best interest to do so). By furthering our understanding of the situation and encouraging people to engage in constructive conversations around this topic, we hope to create enough political pressure for governments to start following the scientific advice (again, because it’s in our best interest to do so).

How...
By stripping the complexity away and breaking this issue down into bite size pieces of information, we hope to make understanding this topic easy. We believe that if you take a step back and look at the bigger picture the problem and solution at a high level is actually fairly simple and that we can do this if we apply the right mindset.

A point to note...
We aim to help you do what you can to address this problem, but it’s up to you as individuals to determine what is reasonable and realistic based on your unique circumstances. We don’t need to be these perfect eco-warriors to avoid climate breakdown (thank god… otherwise we wouldn’t be bothering with FACC IT). We’re not and never am going to be perfect, but we do promise to keep working at living more sustainably and we only hope that people do the same.

Some disclaimers…
  1. We don’t want our content to come across as boring, but our sense of humour may not appeal to everyone. We apologise in advance if our material isn’t to your liking, although we hope that FACC IT becomes a “safe space” for people of varied opinions to respectfully engage in open and honest discussion.
  2. We will always try to ensure that our material is scientifically accurate. Some material may be more subjective and reflective of our opinion, and we will make it clear when that is the case. Please reach out if you have concerns over the accuracy of any of our material.
  3. Each blog post on our website is accompanied by a vlog on our YouTube channel. There’s no need to consume both, although the website will contain links to further information and sources should you wish to delve deeper (please do share any additional material you’ve found interesting).

Some terminology…
Here are a couple of words/ phrases we’re likely to use quite a bit:

“Carbon” or “carbon emissions'' generally refers to carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. These are gases responsible for warming our planet, which results in climate change.

“Decarbonisation” refers to transitioning to an economy that has lower carbon emissions. Generally meaning a transition away from fossil fuels as a primary energy source (whether that's electricity production, transportation or something else).

For any terminology we use that you're unsure of, check out the FACC IT Glossary on the website.

And finally…
And with the jokey stuff out the way I would also like to assure you that we will of course be fear mongering, taking the moral high ground wherever possible, and aggressively promoting the idea that broccoli has as much protein in it as steak (even though it clearly doesn’t).

We hope you find this interesting, informative, occasionally entertaining. Give us a follow on our various platforms (links can be found at the bottom of the page). Please do like, share, subscribe as well as anything else that you do on social media and feedback is strongly encouraged.

And when it comes to climate change, always remember the good news “we don’t have to facc this up for ourselves”.
